Timber, an abandoned senior horse from Eastern Kentucky, was the inspiration for Timber's Grateful Companions which was founded to serve the senior horse. Timber's humility, stoicism and strength is the spirit of encouragement we want to embody in our care for these horses in need.
Timber was wandering around in the mountains of eastern Kentucky when he was discovered by a dedicated group of volunteers who recognized that he was in dire straits and needed help. After successfully rounding him up, they surrendered him to the care of KY Equine Adoption Center in December of 2020. He arrived emaciated and depressed, and with an aggressive infection in his withers called fistulous withers. He almost died . Three hospitalizations later and after months of recovery, he was adopted in December of 2022. Throughout his ordeal, he could have given up at any time, but he made it clear to everyone that he wanted to stay on this planet for a while longer. HIs dignity and strength are the backdrop for our care of other senior horses who need expert treatment and love in their remaining years.
